at the age of fourteen, while growing up in rural Taiwan, Chen
came across a small library of about 50 books on western art. Upon
seeing the work of Vincent van Gogh for the first time, Chen
wept and knew then that he was destined to be an artist. In
homage to his favorite artist, Chen painted 100 paintings for
Vincent van Gogh to celebrate the 100 year anniversary of his
death (1990). |

In 1986, Chen created 100 paintings
as a tribute to the Lady's Centennial Celebration. The
Spirit of Liberty Series¥ has received worldwide attention

icon, and Chen's interpretations of the Lady add a new delight
